# Agent actions

> Configure the actions that custom agents can take in Oculon.

Agent actions define what the agent is allowed to do beyond answering a question.

## Examples of actions

Depending on your setup, an agent may be allowed to retrieve information, guide a workflow, or trigger a controlled task. The right action set depends on the user's role and the level of review required.

## Start with read-first behavior

Begin with actions that retrieve or summarize information. Add higher-impact actions only when the workflow is understood and the guardrails are clear.

## Tie actions to a business purpose

Every allowed action should support a real use case. If an action has no clear owner or review path, leave it disabled.
