# Scenario best practices

> Use practical habits to keep scenario work safe, reviewable, and easy to explain in Oculon.

Good scenario hygiene keeps experimentation fast and review trustworthy. The best scenarios are easy to explain, easy to compare, and hard to confuse with the wrong branch.

## Keep active context obvious

Before you edit anything, confirm the active scenario.

This is the fastest way to avoid one of the most expensive mistakes in scenario workflows: editing the wrong branch and not realizing it until comparison or merge time.

## Name scenarios for humans

Scenario names should help another person understand:

* what the branch is testing
* whether it is still a draft or already a stable baseline
* how it differs from nearby scenarios

If a name does not help someone else interpret the branch quickly, improve it.

## Limit override sprawl

Scenarios become hard to trust when they contain too many unrelated overrides.

Prefer:

* one clear purpose per scenario
* a manageable set of local changes
* deliberate cleanup through reset override when a local change is no longer needed

## Lock approved baselines

If a scenario represents an approved state, treat it like one.

Use governance controls so the scenario can stay visible and comparable without remaining casually editable.

## Merge intentionally

Do not treat merge as the first step after editing.

A safer pattern is:

1. keep the scenario focused
2. compare it against the right baseline
3. confirm the overrides still reflect the intended decision
4. then run `Merge Changes`

That process keeps the result easier to audit and easier to explain later.

## Keep governance clear

Scenario workflows move faster when users understand the difference between:

* visibility
* editability
* mergeability

Those are different controls, and the docs should help teams keep them separate in practice too.
