A strong model stays understandable after more people start using it.
  • Decide the time setup before writing advanced formulas.
  • Keep sections small enough to review comfortably.
  • Reuse shared dimensions and linked logic instead of duplicating them.
  • Use scenarios for experiments, not hidden manual copies.
  • Review boards and views as part of model QA, not only the grid.

Keep ownership visible

Use clear model names, clear owners, and clear audiences. Teams move faster when people can tell which model is active, who maintains it, and which outputs others should trust.

Avoid stale or duplicated logic

Duplicate logic creates drift. Retire models that are no longer active, and avoid creating parallel versions of the same planning logic unless there is a clear reason. If the structure stays the same and you need a checkpoint, use Versioning instead of treating every milestone like a separate working model.

Build for handoff

Assume another planner will inherit the model later. Clean naming, helper variables, consistent structure, and visible ownership are what make that handoff successful.
